- 1/13/2009 - '09 JO Workshop - Organizations/teams need to have a representative at one of these meeting. There are many new topics to discuss i.e. "Gold" classifying, National berths allocations, New ASA A.C.E. requirements. This is important. You will want your views heard. Agendas below.

January 24th (Coast Workshop) - Centennial Park, Paso Robles --> Agenda

January 25th (Valley Workshop) - Tachi Palace, Lemoore --> Agenda

EIN alone does not meet the requirement for phase I of your non profit/tax exempt for CCASA. Below is some of the information that will be covered at the annual meeting by the EA we have to speak to the group. There are many advantages.

"Nonprofit" is a state-level term and each state has its own qualification rules. The state determination has no bearing on whether the organization qualifies for exemption from federal income taxes.

If the organization qualifies for tax exempt status under federal rules, it has two major advantages:

1) It is exempt from paying federal income taxes

2) Donors may deduct contributions made to the organization.

If the organization just applies for non profit status only, they are subject to income taxes. The first process in applying for a tax exempt status is to file their Articles of Incorporation with the secretary of State. After you receive this you can then apply for tax exempt status from the federal. You then will apply for tax exempt status from the state. Just filing with the Federal does not automatically make you tax exempt for state purpose. If you don't apply for the state also, you will be subject to income taxes at the State level.

If you are in jeopardy of losing your tax exempt status from the state you will also be in jeopardy of losing your tax exempt status at the federal level. Both entities do talk to each other.

Unfortunately, people don't seem to understand the difference between nonprofit and nonprofit tax exempt organization. If they want to try to get contributions from people and businesses they need to be tax exempt. Otherwise, any money they receive; the people contributing cannot write this off as a donation and the team accepting this contribution is subject to income taxes.

This is one of many requirement for team registration.  If you completed phase one you must now complete phase two this year.

2007 - IMPORTANT NEW REQUIREMENTS! To protect our members, CCASA and ASA, the following requirements to register an "A" Travel Team in Central California will take effect immediately:

  • “A” travel teams/organizations must not be affiliated with a recreational league. This means that an “A” team/organization must have a Board of Directors separate from a recreational league and that no individual may serve concurrently as a member of the Board of both an “A” team/organization and a recreational league.
  • No person can coach an "A" team and be a member of a Board of any recreational league.
  • All “A” travel teams/organizations must submit a set of approved By Laws to CCASA
  • “A” travel teams/organizations shall be registered, or have applied for registration, as a non-profit organization. One of the implications of such registration is that parent coach travel expenses may not be paid from the team’s bank account.
  • Each “A” travel team/organization must prepare a proposed budget for its annual operations, income and expenses as well as a statement on how players fees are set prior to the selection of players for a championship season. Each “A” travel team/organization must provide an end-of-the-year income and expense statement. These documents must be submitted to the Association J.O. Commissioner and given to all prospective players and their parents/guardians.
  • All coaches will be required to register using the same method as players.
  • All coaches will undergo background checks during the registration process.
  • 1-31-09 All coaches/staff must be ACE cert.

12/19/08 - New requirements are on the way for forming GOLD Travel Teams in 2009/2010.
